School profile
Střední škola a Vyšší odborná škola cestovního ruchu has been training future professionals for various areas of tourism for more than 30 years. Its profile is focused on gastronomy, hotel management and tourism. Around 700 students study at the school in various forms of study.
The school was one of the first hotel schools to become a member of the European Association of Hotel Schools. It cooperates with schools abroad with a similar focus, particularly the Baletour hotel school in Bad Leonfelden, the hotel school in Semmering and the vocational school in Waldkirchen.
Theory lessons for students of the three-year programmes take place in the building at Senovážné náměstí 12. Theory lessons for students of the programmes with the school-leaving examination (maturita) and of the Higher Vocational School take place in the building at Fráni Šrámka 9.
Students of the hotel school and of the three-year vocational programmes receive their practical training at selected workplaces in the region, for example at Malý pivovar, Zvon, Clarion Congress Hotel, Budvar, Solnice and other establishments. The school also places emphasis on foreign languages (English, German, French, Spanish, Italian) so that students are prepared to work in European Union countries.
The standard of our students' training is showcased at the annual Open Days, at the Vzdělání a řemeslo (Education and Crafts) fair at the Výstaviště exhibition grounds in České Budějovice and at many other social and cultural events. Our students traditionally take part in national and international competitions and olympiads.
In the 2025/2026 school year the school opened a new programme, Lyceum, focused on foreign languages and tourism. Besides a general education and preparation for university or a higher vocational school, it offers deeper insight into the field of tourism.
Education at the Higher Vocational School rests on three basic pillars – tourism subjects, economics subjects and two foreign languages. This preparation gives graduates very good career prospects – in travel agencies, hotels, banking, insurance, state administration, local government, etc.
The school includes a school canteen and a dormitory, which offers not only accommodation but also a rich cultural and sports programme for students' free time.
